Real Estate Bloggers: Be a Friend

Being in the real estate business, it’s easy to start taking the whole process of the business for granted.  We’ve all been there – buyer’s and seller’s agents falsely assuming that home shoppers know or understand the business more than they really do, mortgage brokers quickly spouting off with the latest numbers and figures without bothering to explain to the borrower what they actually mean in real terms, and so on.

I’ve found that most customers generally want to understand the process and be assured they’re making a wise decision or getting a great deal, although there are an unfortunate few who just want to know what their monthly payment will be and nothing more.  Working with that, we can quickly identify a whole list of additional benefits to blogging for those in the biz:

•    Educate potential customers.
•    Help the customer understand what kind of deal you can offer.
•    Show people what to look out for.
•    Identify what the consumer needs assistance with.
•    Learn from the customer’s perspective.
•    Answer potential questions.
•    Build name recognition.
•    Cover a local market in a more targeted and natural way.

By doing these things with your blog in a friendly and genuinely giving manner, you’ll be on the path to building loyalty from readers.  And you know what that means in due time – loyal repeat customers.

Sure, many real estate bloggers have found success sharing their opinions, rants, and raves on all things real estate.  This is great for some of us, but first it’s important to identify who you’re really speaking to (and blogging really is a lot like speaking).  A potential homebuyer is probably either looking to see possible homes they can buy or for advice and an answer to a question that they’re pondering, not for perspective on the latest happenings of the latest real estate marketing convention.

Blogging for the benefit of customers means being their friend and helping them navigate the rough waters we often take so for granted.  After all, it’s all about making the entire process easier.  Be a friend!
