Add Value to Your Home with These Winter Projects
If you’re like me and like to try to keep the house in tip top shape all the time, winter can be a bit of a bummer. Where I live, in the wintertime, it’s nearly impossible to do anything outside other than shovel snow and salt down the ice. But I’ve got to be doing some kind of project – it’s just part of my home improvement fanaticism.
Enter winter friendly projects. Thank goodness for them. While I haven’t completely decided just exactly which projects I’ll be tackling this winter, here’s a few that are on my radar for the season…
Remodel the Master Bath.
You’ve heard that bathrooms and kitchens are the most expensive rooms of the house and that’s probably true. But they’re also two of the rooms that help most when it comes to speed and increased revenue when it comes to selling. My home’s master bathroom project idea is fairly simple – some new tile, new countertop, new faucets, and a paint job, but I know it’ll be worth every penny spent. Bathroom remodels definitely add value.
Plan Next Spring’s Outdoor Living.
Okay, allow me to claim this as a great winter inside project simply because I really want to overhaul the whole backyard configuration next spring. I’m thinking about a nice patio along with some serious landscaping. The value added to my home should be noteworthy, but the enjoyment factor of the outdoor living space will be exponential. Because I want to have it all completed in time to enjoy for the majority of summer, I need to get every detail perfectly blueprinted before the time comes to begin.
Let There Be Paint for All!
Now to be clear, my house doesn’t really need new interior paint. But like I said, I’m a home improvement fanatic and I will be doing some project or another whether it’s completely necessary or not. And realistically, the contractor beige throughout is nice and neutral, however it is kind of boring. Color there shall be. I do plan to keep tasteful since I plan on selling fairly soon.
Minor Updates for the Kitchen.
I’m not sure if I want to cover this right now or not, as I eventually plan to completely makeover my entire kitchen with higher-end components and finishes. But if I get through my other projects this winter, I might go ahead and start in the kitchen with some of the smaller detail – improved lighting being a major focus. And we know that as long as it’s practical, it’s hard not to see a return on investment when it comes to upgrading the kitchen.
Winter doesn’t have to be dreary and depressing for those of us who are serious do it yourselfers. In fact, wintertime is the perfect time to tackle interior projects – many of which go a long way towards increasing a home’s value.
