10 Ways to Look Up In a Down Market
Unfortunately, there will be lapses in the real estate market from time to time. With the good, comes the bad too. I don’t like it, you don’t like it, and well… no one really likes the fact. But, here’s the deal – don’t let it bring you down.
Even if you’re facing the slump of a lifetime, consider that others have had it much worse before and came out ahead in the end. Read on for 10 ways to stay positive when everything seems to be dragging you down.
1. Look Forward – You’ve got that right. Look to the future and begin your plan to comeback bigger than ever. This is your chance to reposition yourself in the real estate market and do it all over the way you always wanted to.
2. Keep Learning – Use the down time in the market to develop new skills and oil up your old rusty ones. The stars of the real estate market re-sharpen all the time, that’s why they’re at the top.
3. Don’t Worry – Ever read the old Dale Carnegie classic, How to Stop Worrying and Start Living? If not, go to your library or book store and get it immediately. It’s been around for a long time, but the message is truly timeless. Worrying is a waste of your time.
4. Take Advantage – If you have the liquidity, the down market could be just the boost you need to invest at rock bottom prices. Market woes and jitters might just be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.
5. Career Change – Ever feel like you’re stuck in a rut in your real estate job? Well, if you really feel this way, it might be the perfect time to give it all up and start over fresh doing something you really love. Don’t worry about external pressure to stay in the game. Have no guilt for your dreams – just go after them.
6. Read Like Crazy – No one ever ended up worse off from reading. Read a positive, educational, non-fiction book every week to help develop a winning attitude. Before long, new ideas will begin storming your mind like never before.
7. Exercise Frequently – You might consider this a distraction from the work you really need to do, but its effect is quite the opposite. Going for a vigorous run or even a power walk first thing every morning will give you the energy to plow through the day’s work while also giving you extra quality time to clear your mind and get your thoughts in gear.
8. Slow Down – Get back to the basics and realize that money isn’t everything. The downturn in real estate might allow you to start living again. Get back to an 8 hour work day, or even less if possible. Make enough to pay your bills and be comfortable, but put your family and yourself first.
9. Simplify – Again, if you’ve been running yourself ragged during the market insanity, try to get back to the basics. Reorganize and focus on your one best niche. Life will be much more peaceful and the success that follows might just surprise the heck out of you.
10. Reconnect – When you’re feeling down, network with old friends and associates. Pick up the phone and reach out to those you’ve been too busy to think about lately. Reconnecting always has certain redeeming and healing qualities.
